Black Cow

Last night I received an email from a gentleman who lives in Northeast Ohio. He described to me an eyewitness account which was told to him while he and his wife were out conducting Bigfoot field research.

~"My wife became a fifth grade science teacher and recently published a book called "BLACK COW". Odd name for a book involving bigfoot unless you know why. We were investigating in Columbiana County during our time with AARF and met a farmer. We asked him if we could walk his property to take nature pics and assured him that we had no weapons. He was a great guy and we talked to him for 45 minutes or so. I looked at my wife and she gave me the 'go ahead' look and told the farmer our real reason we wanted to walk the area.

He became very serious and asked if we were the "Law" or from the "State". We emphatically said no and again explained we were investigating sightings from others in the area and that his farms location was kinda in the middle. He took his hat off (I know its cliche') and said with more of a sigh than anything else... "There's others." Our expressions of WTF? must have given us away. He told us this story.

" A few years back I woke up at night because all the animals were going nuts. I looked outside and saw a shadow of a man go behind my barn where the mercury light was. I called the sheriff and told them I had a prowler breaking into my barn and was going out on him. They said to stay inside, but I didn't. I grabbed my gun and went outside. Very quiet. I snuck down to the back of the barn where it was dark and come around the corner and there he was. He was big! Right in front of me. Looking down at me. All covered in hair and big! I backed up and ran to the house. "

I had to ask the obvious. "You had a gun. You ran?"

I think that pissed him off a bit. He continued.

"Hell yes I ran. You would have too! That thing was big. It didn't mean me harm though. He just looked at me. When I got back to the house, I looked out the window and saw him walk away into the corn. Never ran. Just walked away. The sheriff showed up about twenty minutes later and I was still a bit shaken. They asked what was going on and I told them that they wouldn't believe it. I started to tell them what I saw and as I did, that sheriff started walking away to his car like he was not believing me. I kept following him telling him I knew what I saw and That I wasn't crazy. He opened his car door and grabbed the radio and told me to hold on. That's when he said it. Craziest thing ever. He said " All units be advised we have a BLACK COW on the loose again". I started to tell him I know the difference between a cow and what I saw. He assured me he knew that and told me to stay inside tonight."

I interjected that BLACK COW was a code used for Bigfoot. He just nodded.
I have written to all of the county agencies around me and they have all denied any reports or investigations of bigfoot or knowledge of any codes to refer to it. ~

This review is from: Black Cow (Paperback)
I found BLACK COW to be a refreshing and enjoyable reading experience. Various books have been written about UFO's, aliens, and vampires. However BLACK COW addresses a more realistic phenomenon in an interesting manner. I whole heartedly recommend the book to young readers as well as readers who are young at heart.

CRYPTOPALOOZA! 2012

What is Cryptopalooza???? Only the first cryptid conference of it's kind! Cryptopalooza has been a long time in the making, but it’s finally a reality. Over the years friends Michael Esordi, founder of Believe It Tour, and Craig Woolheater, founder of Cryptomundo, have tossed around ideas about the conference experience and how to make it even better for people. Out of those discussions the idea began to form of starting something new and unique. Michael hit on the name Cryptopalooza and things started to pick up steam when the city of Jefferson, Texas contacted Craig about doing an event in their city. With the growing number of Bigfoot and cryptozoolgy conferences spreading across the country, it’s obvious there’s an interest in these topics and a need for events to bring people together. Craig and Michael are joining forces with Sharon Lee, The Bigfoot Field Reporter, and Diana Smith, of Believe It Tour, to bring you a unique weekend experience called Cryptopalooza that you won’t want to miss. Join us October 19-20, 2012, for a weekend of music, movies, speakers, cryptids, and fun! Behind Finding Bigfoot

By now we have all become familiar with the show Finding Bigfoot and the characters on the show.
We make fun of Matt saying "I do think there's a Squatch in these woods" and Ranae's yodeling "Yoo Hoo"... we tune in every week because finally researchers are getting some overdue recognition.

The show is entertaining, but as with all television productions, there is a lot going on behind the scenes.
The show has to travel to a new location every week and although first class airfare would be cool, someone has to transport all of the camping gear and research equipment.

This brings me to the unknown cast member, the 5th Beatle if you will, Tyler Bounds.  Who is this behind-the-scenes man of mystery?

Tyler hails from northern Washington state and as many people of the PNW, he has had a fascination with Bigfoot since he was a wee lad.
In 1992, Tyler went on his own personal expedition to Bluff Creek where he camped for days, alone in the wilderness.  He didn't find any evidence of Bigfoot at that time but in true Tyler fashion I quote, " I drove down there and spent days camping all by myself. I had no clue what I was doing, but it was rad."
It wasn't until 2009 that Tyler met Matt, Cliff and Bobo at the Yakima Roundup.  He then went on the BFRO Olympic Peninsula Expedition later that same year where he met Ranae Holland.

When the Finding Bigfoot production filmed at Salt Fork State Park in 2011, I drove down to visit with Cliff and Bobo.  Unfortunately it was Bobo's turn to camp out with Tyler, and they were trying to avoid the masses of enthusiasts who were flooding the woods that evening.  We talked and sent texts back and forth.  I was curious as to who this Tyler fellow was and Bobo assured me that Tyler was one of the most awesome people one would ever meet.  I decided to interview Tyler and find out some more about him.

SL: When were you invited to join the Finding Bigfoot team?
TB:  I worked on the first season- the Georgia, Oregon and Washington episodes. Cliff and Bobo insisted I be part of the crew, and Day 2, I found those footprints in GA. Then I was the golden child after that. They needed someone for Season 3 that could camp out without being afraid, without complaining, and trusted and experienced enough to be left alone for days at a time. Plus, they had to be a bigfoot nerd, know how to work nightvision, thermal, trailcam, parabolic, etc etc etc

SL: Have you ever had what you would consider a Bigfoot encounter?
TB: I've had several "encounters"- knocks, screams, pebbles thrown at my tent, rock clacking etc. and I saw  3 of them east of Mt. Rainier in 2009.

SL: how far away? what were they doing? what were you doing?
TB: The first one I saw had paralleled me for 30 minutes, knocking and raising a ruckus 20-25 feet away from me in the dense forest, then I saw it with Gen3 nightvision when I reached an area that was more open. It was 80 feet away from me, 8 1/2-9 feet tall, male. There were 3-5 juveniles in a deadfall not far away, I could see their eyeshine, so I think it was trying to distract me from discovering them. The next two I saw were the next night, myself and 13 other people watched 2 of them standing in the road 100 yards away, 1 large and 1 smaller. They stood in the road watching us for 3-4 minutes before bolting when we began to approach them.
I may have seen another one later that year on the Olympic Peninsula, but I can't be sure, it was dark and my eyes were fried from accidentally watching lightning through a night vision, and I don't want to claim something I'm unsure of.

SL:  What are your duties with the Finding Bigfoot production?
TB: My job duties? Uh...fixer. Production assistant. Cameraman. "Bigfoot expert". Driver.  Camping expert. Tent technician. Finder of lost shit. Trailcam setter-upper. Bait station creator. Parabolic listener. Tracker. Hiker.

SL: What is the most rewarding feature of being with this production and do you mind being on the road away from home so much?
TB: The most rewarding thing for me is the travel, the adventure, and making my friends look like rockstars. And no, I'd rather be on the road than at home. If I could take my dog, I'd never come back. I was home for 1 hour before I was bored.

SL: What kind of dog do you have? What is his name?
TB: Mojo is an Alaskan Magic Mountain Mutt.
SL:  Have Mojo and Mountain Monkey ever met?
TB: no. Mojo and Monkey haven't hung out.

SL:  What do you want to be when you grow up?
TB: I'm gonna open up another brewery before 2012 is over
SL: another brewery? you had one before?
TB: I was a brewer in AK for 6 years.
SL: apparently you like cold weather!
TB: I'd rather be in 0° than 100° any day

SL:  Will we be seeing more of you in 2012?
TB:  Where? on TV? Probably not...

SL:  I look forward to meeting you in person, Bobo speaks very highly of you!
TB:  He lies. But Thanks.

As you can see Tyler has a very dry wit about him.  He is down to earth and is a real, in the woods, in your face Bigfoot researcher.  Look for Tyler to appear in a Carhartt ad for Backpacker Magazine in the near future!

Reason, Science and Sanity in Bigfoot Research

A few days ago Steven Streufert added me to this new page he created on Facebook which he called  "Coalition for Reason, Science and Sanity in Bigfoot Research.  The group is just starting out, and is very small, I believe there are 86 members today.

We were having several very nice, intriguing discussions among many threads, the most active one being,  "Do you think the government already knows about Bigfoot and possibly already recovered a body? Why would they not tell us about it?"

Another thread soon turned to DNA evidence and more people were added to the group.  Now it was getting interesting.

There are those who believe that Bigfoot can disappear into thin air, or appear as another creature, or explode into a ball of pure, white light.  Some believe the Bigfoot to be a primate with no hominid qualities, then there are others who deem these beings as "Forest PEOPLE" implying that the Bigfoot is as human as any of us reading this, but with more hair.  I won't say which group I belong to, and you can decide for yourself where you fit in, however, perhaps we need to dissect each group and try to rationalize, irrationally, what can be happening.

I believe in the possibility that there are extra-terrestrial beings and UFO's. I believe in the possibility of angels and demons.  I believe in the possibility of Bigfoots, Dogmen, Mothmen, Skunk Apes, Sea Serpents and Chupacabras.

I am not going to rule out anything just because I have not experienced it first hand.  BUT, if you are going to try to convince me that the owl I hear is really a Bigfoot IMITATING an owl, then I suggest you turn the video camera around and post THAT on Youtube.  I am willing to view any physical evidence you can provide with a very wide open mind.

I was intrigued by the video of the angel who came to a young girl's hospital door moments after she was taken off of life support, and the girl survived.  Now maybe I'm just gullible, but that was very intriguing!

I would venture to say that if a researcher was out in the woods and a bright light enveloped them, they may have had an alien or spiritual encounter.  But why would this researcher (no one in particular)  believe that it was a Bigfoot encounter?

Everything that occurs is open to individual interpretation, so for the sake of research, we must begin to separate interpretation from cold, hard, scientific fact.

We have so many different types of people putting forth information, while not really accurate but perhaps their own interpretation of what is going on out in them thar woods.

We have the Youtubers who really think they are going to be the next "break-out" reality show star.  Then we have organizations that instruct hundreds of members to pay dues and to follow the rules of said organization.  Then there are the people who claim habituation, but refuse to share their Bigfoot with the world with any hard evidence but we are to just take them at their word.  Then there are those who are all too eager to show their Bigfoot evidence, usually in the form of blobsquatches, leaves, tree stumps, air....you get the picture ;).  And then we have those who communicate with the Bigfoot through mind-speak.  Now, if you are not actually seeing the Bigfoot, how do you know you are not reading the mind of a chipmunk or woodchuck?
It is all so very frustrating and it becomes more frustrating when the ones who want hard, solid facts sit by and watch as innocent enthusiasts flock to the new Bigfoot gurus, or flit from one belief to another.

We so wanted the Georgia Bigfoot in the freezer to be the real deal.  We wanted that flesh and blood body to be 100% legitimate, and not an alien, or a spirit.  Yet once again, we were disappointed.  Perhaps at some point during our infatuation with Bigfoot, we simply give in to the idea that it just may be something not of this world.

I hope to hear a lot of feedback from eyewitness who can attest to the fact that this creature is real.  Warm blooded, oxygen breathing, omnivorous with a sense of humor and a taste for exotic spices.

Incident at Boiling Springs Campground, Idaho

This story comes to me from a reader who is interested in learning if there are other reports, sightings or incidents near the Boiling Springs Campground area.

Witness report-My bigfoot story begins with me reading about three other reported sightings in the area of Boiling Springs Camp Ground between 2008 to 2010. So I decided to do my bear hunting at the same site.

The day was Saturday, September 24th, 2011. My friend Eric and I were bear hunting and we set out about 8am. The weather was clear and sunny; the temperature was about 46 degrees. We hiked about 2 miles up the south fork of the Payette river and crossed over to start moving into the tree line.
After about a half mile we were moving up hill and were stopped by the noise of something moving through the brush. We did not see anything as the wilderness up there is quite thick. We got behind a large downed pine tree and waited to see if the thing would continue to come in our direction and it didn’t, so after 20 minutes we decided to walk in the direction of where we heard the noise, we got about 150 yards up a old game trail and were moving up hill and come to a small stream with water running in it, but the bushes were so thick you couldn’t see the water. During the hike there were typical forest sounds such as birds, squirrels and bugs. Once we got closer to the bushes the forest was dead silent and at one point I told Eric to listen and he said he couldn’t hear anything and I said that’s what I am talking about there are no noises at all. As we moved closer to the bushes a large but new green pine cone with pine needles still attached came flying out of the bushes in our direction. So we stopped and looked at each other and not knowing what to think we decided to move closer and I am scanning the hill with my weapon L-to-R and then I noticed as we got closer to the bush a rock the size of a softball maybe a little bigger came out of the bushes at Eric, it wasn’t really thrown at him but it was in his direction for sure, so we stopped and I put my weapon on fire at this point and am in full Recon mode as we walked even closer at this point we are about 30yards from the bushes still moving up hill and from a different area up and to the right and further up the hill another pine cone came at me this time, and Eric asked me what we should do and I said let’s get out of here because to be honest I wasn’t ready to kill something that I don’t know what is was….we never saw anything but I do feel like something strange happened up there.

Back at the campsite there were no other hunters in the camp and we saw no other hunters as we moved through the woods. At no time did anyone announce their presence which is what I would have thought a hunter would have done considering we had our weapons pointed at them.

We were on the downhill side of the encounter and the wind was not heading in our direction but we did not smell anything out of the ordinary. Please keep in mind Sharon I am a Special Forces Trained Solider as a Force Recon Marine and Air Force Combat Controller and have three tours in combat there isn’t much that get the hairs on my neck to stand up but in that moment, it’s hard to explain but I was on edge.

I have spent a lot of time in the wilderness around the world from jungle, deep woods to tundra both hunting and training while I was in the military, I know how to be a part of my surroundings blend in.

Previous sightings reported on the BFRO:

The first sighting was in 2008 by a husband and wife on ATV’s and it was at the end of Sept. they were riding on the Forest Service Road and the wife saw what looked like a hairy tall person run across the road in front of her and up the hill so she speeded up to catch up to her husband whom was around the counter looking up at the same thing, and they both realized that they saw a bigfoot.

LOCATION DETAILS: Near Crouch Idaho(Valley County) about 20 or so miles up rd.# 698 is Boiling Springs Campground and a few hundred yards away is a forest service cabin and a creek right next to the campground. On November 1st 2009 around 8:00 p.m. we saw something between the trees between our sight and the rest rooms. It was walking back and forth in the clearing and swaying back and forth in the same spot when it stopped to better see us through the opening in the trees. Nothing occured to us except it maybe have been some one but we were the only campers for miles. The following year in October 30th 2010 around 10:00 p.m. at the same location we were getting spooked by the area for no reason and we actually packed up and left when again there were no other campers and we heard what sounded like a large boulder about 75-100 yards away hit the ground with a great thud. No boulder rolling or crashing down a hill but like it was thrown or dropped out of the air. No smells or sightings except a few possible 11 inch tracks in the dirt a month prior while hunting in that area.

Ohio Bigfoot Conference Follow-up to Legends of Bigfoot Lecture

Good evening friends!

I am home now from a wonderful afternoon spent with like-minded Bigfoot enthusiasts from Northeast Ohio.

It was an overcast seasonable afternoon. I picked up my partner Bob and we headed west to Lorain county to the Carlisle Nature Center.

Marc was setting up his vendor table while Dave was setting up Esteban's PowerPoint presentation.

I went over to say hello to my favorite primate anthropologist; restraining myself from his boyish charms.

Bob and I said our hellos and were soon greeted by Dave aka 'Bluetracker" and Liam, aka, "Irish Guy". Psychic Sonya brought up the rear.

There were about 75 people in the room and some were boy scouts who had heard about the event from Marc's wife who is a den leader.

Marc began the presentation with a brief biography of himself and how he started out as a Bigfoot researcher over 20 years ago. He then told us a story of his first visualization and showed the video to corroborate his story.

He thinks the video is nothing.

Believe me when I tell you, that this video far surpasses anything ...any blobsquatch..anything by ButchyKid..just let me say..I was impressed. I have asked for Mark's permission to air the story and the video...I hope he allows you all to see it.

He then introduced Esteban. I wish that Esteban were a professor at Cleveland State University because I would definitely sign up for his class.

He began talking to us about the physical attributes of Great Apes. He provided slides that explained the disbursement of apes an humans all over the world. He showed how almost all Great Apes reside in countries near the equator.

He then segued into the Patterson film and how the subject in the film differs from an ape, and has more human characteristics.

Esteban neither confirms or denies that he believes in Bigfoot, however he will not rule out the possibility of a species of North American ape.

As always, Esteban was enjoyable to listen to and an attentive listener himself.

He loves the stories that people tell him and will give you his honest opinion when asked a direct question.

Marc DeWerth and his organization, the Ohio Bigfoot Organization deserve much credit for bring Esteban in, at their own expense, and charging nothing to the public. I would definitely send some donations his way.

Hopefully I will add some video and audio to this post so you can all feel like you were there!

It was an awesome afternoon and I am home now thinking about my next adventure...Honobia, Oklahoma!

Can't wait to see my dear friends Bob and Kathy Strain! xoxo muah muah muah!

Loving my life and what I do! Till next time friends!
