Oregon Footprints Discovered and Cast

The credit for this amazing find goes to Toby Johnson. I truly appreciate how he was willing to share this evidence with other researchers, and not keep it all to himself! I have always found the Oregon researchers t be very open and honest in my dealings with them. Thom Powell was kind enough to share the photos (bottom of page) with me and the following report comes from Guy Edwards' web site.

South of Eugene, over 120 footprint tracks were found in a clay-mixed substrate that was a perfect material to capture and record footprints. We believe the tracks were made as recently as Saturday February 11th, although the first few prints were not discovered until Sunday the 12th.

Quick run down of events.

(SUN Feb 12th) Max is a retired man who once worked in the auto industry and now spends his retirement restoring cars, he happened to be looking for cars in the London, Oregon when he is approached by a man walking his dog.
(SUN Feb 12th) The man walking his dog mentions to Max there are three Bigfoot prints near the tree line. Max checks it out and is surprised to see the three good tracks
(MON Feb 13th) Max can't sleep, has to go back to site to take pictures.
(TUE Feb 14th) Max remembers Toby Johnson's Sasquatch-mobile, it had been decorated with large Bigfoot stickers resembling footprints. He had also recalled reading an newspaper article of the first Oregon Sasquatch Symposium Toby had held in 2010 at Lane Community College in Eugene. The Sasquatch-mobile is now owned by Toby's ex-wife, sans stickers, but Max, the car aficionado that he is, recognizes the vehicle non-the-less. So when Max went to share the Bigfoot prints he contacted Toby's ex-wife first. Max gives his contact info to Toby's Ex
(TUE Feb 14th) Toby calls Max and Max sends the pics of the three prints via phone.
(WED Feb 14th 8:00pm ~ THURS Feb 15th 7:00am) Toby goes to the site with his friend, an avid hunter and a local. Since Toby's friend wishes to remain anonymous, we will call him Tracker. Both Toby and Tracker see the original three and few others that were not photographed, these other tracks were in heavy vegetation.
(THURS Feb 15th afternoon) Toby goes home and Tracker goes home. Toby tries to return to site later in afternoon, due to obligations he can not stay long, as he leaves Tracker returns. Tracker is with his daughter's boyfriend, and continues to follow the tracks on his own time. Tracker follows the tracks out of the vegetation into a clay-like substrate and realizes there are at least a hundred prints. He calls Toby.
(THURS Feb 15th 3pm-ish) Toby calls Cliff Barackman, co-host of Finding Bigfoot and a self-described "track/cast-nerd". Cliff drives 2 hours to investigate the scene.
(FRI Feb 16th 6pm) I am able to get a ride with Thom Powell, we meet Beth Heikkenin and Toby Johnson and see the tracks ourselves.
(SAT Feb 17th 6am) Our original count was around 118 sequential prints. Cliff Barackman was able to count 122, we will confirm if his count are the sequential set or total prints in the area. We made two set of measurements recording step length stride length.

Step length is the distance between the point of initial contact of one foot and the point of initial contact of the opposite foot. In normal gait, right and left step lengths are similar.

Stride length is the distance between successive points of initial contact of the same foot. Right and left stride lengths are normally equal.

Below is a rough illustrated diagram of the general path and the measurements we took. Knowing how difficult it is to get exact measurements, I added a third column titled Calculated Stride Length to compare against the Measured Stride Lengths. The numbers in the calculated column are based on the recorded step length. The numbers I am interested in are the average and means.

The mean is the usual average,

so in Series A: Step Length average is 47.29:

(45 + 48 + 46 + 45 + 46 + 54+ 47) ÷7 = 47.29

The median is the middle value, so I'll have to rewrite the list in order

so in Series A: Step Length median is 46:

45, 45, 46, 46, 47, 48, 54

As you can see in the two sets, Series A and Series B, there average numbers and the means for the step and stride are relatively close.
All the other tracks are still mud covered until they cure (2 weeks). These two were broken during transport so I cleaned them before I could repair them.

Georgia Sighting Report-New!

Our friend Jeffery R. Thomas went from researcher to witness at warp speed yesterday.

His cousin was joining him for his very first outing and hit the Patterson/Gimlin lottery! Read the report below:

Sighting Events of February 18, 2012

We were planning on scouting a piece of private property that has had several sighting reports over the years. It just so happened that our newest member to the CSRA CSRA (and my cousin) Jamie Bass was going to be able to go out with us for the first time. During the week Dave and I had heard there were a couple of other people interested in the phenomenon of Bigfoot that worked at University Hospital. A message was sent to one on Facebook (and he has yet to reply) and another was sent person to person to the latter. After watching the weather on Friday to see if we were going to have to cancel due to storms, Dave received a call from Sandy who expressed interest in going with us the very next day if we would allow it. We told him that he would be more than welcome. Dave had also coincidentally received a call from Jack Hovatter (see report) the same Friday evening wherein he expressed interest in going out with us if we were granted access to the certain area. As it turns out the property owner backed out for the 3rd week in a row for reasons that seemed a little fishy yet again. So we had been scanning back up sites and decided that we would revisit a private location we had free range to explore in southeast Georgia (exact location undisclosed). We had done an overnight there before back in June of 2011 on the night of the Super Moon (see exped recap).

Dave and I had done a few day trips there during different times of the year and had found some really great markers, plenty of food supply for the big guy, but unfortunately too much foliage to trek to the tip of the peninsula of the property (apprx 100 acres surrounded on three sides by the Savannah River in an Omega shape). So Dave, Jamie, Sandy, and I (Jack did not make this trip) made it down south before the storms were to set in to hike around, see what we could see, and get to know one another better (and what better way to get to really know someone than to take a good hike). After some initial trouble with the key to the gate closing the property off we made it in. We looked at an old pointing marker we strongly believe was a warning sign of an active deer stand nearby and noticed it had changed slightly due to river flooding and what could have been rebuilding of the marker with a different log. We then went deeper into the peninsula to an open field where oats are planted with a deer stand at the back end of the field. This would be the starting point to hike to the tip of the peninsula as the majority of the property is fairly untouched woods save for an old campsite we found that prospectors had left trash and things (illegal prospecting for Native American artifacts). As we started in we found some old markers that have been in place for some time and we very close to the previously stated camp site (see pic). We trekked farther into the property and found the river where there were some really good hiding places formed by natural dormant kudzu. The bank of the river was sandy and we could see some coyote prints that had been left the night before as they looked very fresh. I should also note that on the way to this river bank we found hundreds of piles of hog scat in the drier/higher areas that rarely see the natural residual flooding of the river. Several areas also had a residual smell of hog that was very dank and barnyard like in it's nature. Dave and I had come across six black hogs in the same spots on a previous daytime exped (all black and very big). Upon looking at our portable Magellan GPS we noted that we had not in fact made it to the tip of the peninsula, but merely to the right side of the Omega shape. So we set a direction to get there and Dave led the way. Dave (in his oh so true fashion) made an exerted effort to lead the way wherein he ultimately (as usually happens every time which is why we carry walkie talkies) left us all behind. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Jamie and Sandy stayed behind me. When Dave finally noticed we were nowhere in site he made a single wood knock with his walking stick (a 3 foot wooden post used for post hole diggers). His knock is light and very distinct and can be easily tracked as far as direction is concerned. I attempted to knock back instead of yelling, but my walking stick is too skinny to be heard from a distance. I gave my other walkie talkie to Jamie this time in case we got separated so Dave did not have a radio at all to be reached. I simply led the way towards his knock and within a few minutes he knocked again to display his location. After some time had passed we finally made it to where we could see we were once again close to the river. The woods had gotten VERY thick by this point and hiking was slow going due to river can bamboo, small trees, dormant kudzu, and vines which supplied adequate places to hide. We got to an area where we found some scat we thought was hog, but it was almost human sized. We had found some other scat earlier we could not identify as well (more on that later). Then I came upon an area where a tree top had fallen that was ladened with some dormant brown vines (lots of these in other areas as well). There was also a natural barrier of thick foliage in a semi circular shape that this tree top brown cover was situated in. The next few moments happened in split seconds. I looked up and thought I saw Dave apprx 60 feet in front of us, but it was weird because he had wood knocked just seconds before and it was from a different location. Dave was wearing a black BFRO shirt and has black hair, so it was a natural assumption for me to think it was him on first glance. I spoke out loud, "Is that Dave?" It was almost immediately after the words had escaped my lips that another wood knock from Dave came from the same location as before that was apprx 300 yards to our left. Thats when I exclaimed, "That's NOT Dave, what the hell is that!?!?" Then immediately tried to double time it towards the black figure which began to 'walk' away from us. Jamie exclaimed directly behind me seeing the same figure, "What the hell IS that?" I continued to hear it walk (and I stress walk) very silently away from us making nowhere near as much noise as we made and quite effortlessly through the thick foliage. Sandy who was last in line of our single file was folded over head down trying to get through the canes that were impeding our progress when Jamie and I saw what we did. So he did not see the figure, but noted that he heard it as we did. Then we noted the smell when we reached the area where it had been. The smell was not like the hog smell we had experienced earlier and had a very ammonia/urine like stench. I turned and asked if the other two smell it and it had already reached Jamie where he shook his head yes. Sandy exclaimed "Whoa!" when the smell finally reached him. The other two agreed that is was very urine-like. I attempted to monkey climb a skinny tree to get a bird's eye view of the woods below thinking I would be able to see it from above better than at ground level. My attempt was unsuccessful as this is not as easy as it seemed in my head. We continued to hear it walking away from us in shorts spurts and not one continuous stroll. The three of us just stood there dumbfounded not knowing how to proceed as it was obvious we were not going to be able to catch up to it. Dave finally found us approaching us from the same direction as the figure had previously walked. We then informed him of what had just happened. He had been heading in a different direction and noted that he heard what he thought was us approaching from behind. He did not turn to look because like us previously thinking what we saw was initially him, he just assumed it was us. We he did finally hear us in the distance he turned and headed for where we were. His separating from us was a blessing in disguise because it turns out we flanked it into a corner it could not escape from. It simply waited to walk away from whomever got to it first, which just so happened to be us. It this walked directly between My group and Dave to find a hiding location to spy on us from. Once together we all noticed how the area was perfect for hiding as it has natural camo all along the front and a steep banked river guarding the rear. We then found a bamboo twist in the immediate area (see pic). It was close to this that we found more of the unusual scat. It was perfectly round and almost golf ball sized and only about 4-5 in quantity. I took my knife and cut one open to find it was somewhat ungulate in nature consisting mostly of what look like undigested grass. Not saying this belonged to the big guy, it was just in that area and we had seen some before. It was completely unlike the hog scat that had found which was dog sized but human shaped (if that makes sense). Dave had taken a few steps forward and stopped to listen while we walked towards him where he noted something was in front of us walking in synch with us (paralleling). I thought I had heard this as well. We went back to the area where we saw the figure initially to try and figure the size. It was then we knew it could not be Dave we saw, because the shape appeared above a branch we measured to be apprx 6 feet in height. It would have made the figure at least 7 feet tall. Jamie and I agreed that the figure was solid black and neither of us saw a face, arms, hands or legs. I suppose we saw it from the back as it was headed away from us immediately after we saw it. I briefly saw it walking away but it was indistinct and extremely quick. Upon going back to the area we also noted that the smell had resided unlike where the hogs had bedded down earlier. There was no lingering residual odor. Jamie and I decided it could not have been a hog because it was too tall off the ground. It could not have been a black bear because not only are they extremely rare in this area, but do not reach those heights even when standing on their hind legs. Southern black bear are large dog sized and not the round behemoths you see in the North Georgia mountains and the Appalachians. Also a hog, bear, deer, or even an armadillo would have made much more noise trying to get away from us and would have RUN (not the casual walk we experienced). Now, naturally our cameras were in our pockets, so none of this made tape. The foliage was so thick we needed the hand not occupying the walking stick to make our way through it. Interestingly enough, we all took pics of the bamboo twist, but Jamie and I noticed that OUR cameras (and only our cameras) had drained batteries just moments later when we all tried to take a pic of a large cypress tree once we made it back to the gate. Jamie had just taken his camera of the charger that morning and mine usually keeps a three our record time with constant use. I had heard of electronics failing on other researchers before and am not trying to tie anything paranormal to this event, but this IS what happened. Our trip out was uneventful and we would have done an overnight, but impending weather chased us away. Because of the dry leaf litter and terrain there were no tracks to be seen, and for some reason which I can't explain now, we all left the area fairly quickly. Looking back we should have combed that area for clues, but we all just left. And I can't explain why. It is my conclusion being a researcher in the phenomenon of Sasquatch/Bigfoot that Jamie and I very briefly saw a black Sasquatch that Dave and I believe exists on the property. My mission in this field has always been to have an experience and sighting for myself wherein I would most likely quit the study/hobby as there could be nothing more to add for myself. However, after sleeping on the occurrences that transpired I feel that the sighting wasn't 'perfect' enough for me to justify quitting.

Skunk Ape Semester

Just when you finished Big, by Lloyd Pye, along comes another exciting new ebook Skunk Ape Semester
This story revolves around young Jeremy Fishleder, a zoology professor whose childhood run-in with Florida's "skunk ape" has driven his lifelong pursuit of Bigfoot and other such animals. Prompted by a health scare, he goes on sabbatical and, along with three students, travels the country seeking out the unknown. From Willow Creek, CA to Lake Champlain and beyond, theirs is an eclectic journey, filled with strange characters and even stranger possibilities! I can't wait to read this story since I have visited all of the places author Mike Robinson mentions in his book. Has he been following me?

Skunk Ape Semester
embraces part X-Files, part On the Road, and part Forteana textbook, it establishes an introductory gateway for the skeptical layperson to learn of and appreciate the legitimacy of the field and the dedication of its researchers -- not to mention the truly odd things that happen out there.

Author Mike Robinson was partially inspired by his own Fortean journeys several years ago, including an experience with Bigfoot vocalization.

Skunk Ape Semester
currently is an eBook, available for Kindle, for only $3.99 with a print edition to debut in a few months.
Here is an excerpt from the book to get you started!
~The tapping began one heavy July evening, almost two months after my eleventh birthday and about a year before we moved out of Florida.
I first heard it in the bathroom and assumed, given our house’s history, that it was another bout of plumbing indigestion. Likely sink water gurgling through. Or the shower dripping. But in consciously stopping to listen there was no mistaking the metallic thunk of the drainage pipe being struck in the sideyard. Glancing out the window solved nothing; I didn’t really expect it to. Encompassed by an abundant froth of soupy greenery, the woods at night was one big apocalyptic shadow.

As a child, I was not exactly gifted (or burdened) with an overstock of imagination, and so I let the noise be, my developing science-mind assuming it nothing but rocks in the gutter or some rambunctious bugs or animals.

But it seemed to grow louder. Bigger. I heard it from several different areas and always at night, usually late – one time it even woke me up. There was nothing predictable about it; I think it happened arbitrarily four or five times in the span of a few weeks, and it never lasted very long. After the first two or so incidents my parents took notice and they began to think, as I did, that someone was throwing rocks at the house, using the cover of darkness to conceal best they could their launching point. Thankfully none of the ammunition struck a window.

Salt Fork is for Lovers

This past weekend I celebrated Valentine's Day at Salt Fork State Park lodge. Of course my real intention was to go squatching, but sometimes you have to compromise. I usually prefer to be spontaneous rather than make plans. Why? Because when you make plans you have expectations and when the expectations aren't met, there is disappointment. Thus, my disappointment that I chose the WORST weekend of the winter to head down to SF.
We began our journey south at around 1:30 pm, blinded by the worst snowstorm of the year. The squatchmobile was traveling at about 30 mph on the highway and I feared we wouldn't get to our destination until dark.
The weather did clear up a bit past Akron, however the temps were hovering at around 16 degrees.
We arrived at the lodge, unpacked the car, then headed out for some daylight recognizance. Nancy had called me the night before to inform me that she had heard what sounded like 2 men having a conversation in the woods. She and B drove around looking for other people in the vicinity and couldn't find a soul. She told me where to look but unfortunately, with all the new fallen snow, nary a print was to be found.

We returned for night ops at around 9:30 pm. We were bundled up like stuffed cabbages for the temp had dropped to 12 degrees Fahrenheit. I set out some fish but I'm sure it was frozen within seconds thereby nullifying the scent. I let out a whoop and was answered by the cold wind in the trees, the bark creaking and moaning.
It was exactly like the night before Christmas, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Why? Because they are smart enough to know not to leave the warmth of their lairs when it is 12 degrees out. Fair enough, I finally caught on.

The next morning we headed to Francis Family restaurant in historical downtown Cambridge for a delicious breakfast. I then contacted the witness who I was to meet and we joined them at their residence.

Judy, her husband David and their 14 yr old son Dakota live on 70 acres of heavily wooded land that has been in David's family since the 1940's.

As I proceeded up the long driveway, I was pleased to see rabbits in cages, miniature horses in a pen, ducks, chickens, 2 elderly dogs and at least 2 healthy billy goats. In my mind I was thinking, "No wonder the bigfoot comes around".
The family greeted us and asked if we would like to hike their property to the place where David most recently found a footprint. We began our journey and I asked many questions.
David's first sighting occurred about 9 years ago. There was some utility work being done about half way up his drive. Workers were supposed to be installing new utility poles, but on this day, David stepped out onto his porch and saw a large figure running out of the woods towards the driveway. His first thought was that one of the workers was goofing around and he was quite upset that they were running around on his property when they should be working! Then it dawned on him that there were no trucks or other vehicles. Slowly it dawned on him that he had a trespasser and he bolted off of his porch in pursuit of the culprit. He described the figure as having yellowish-orange hair, which is why he thought it was a human at first because the color was that of a Carhartt jacket! As he got closer he saw the 7 foot tall creature leap across the driveway and into the woods in 2 swift bounds. When he reached the area where the creature entered the woods, he did not hear or see a thing.
We then fast forward to October 2011. Dakota had been riding his 4 wheeler on the property when he came to within 30 feet of a 7 foot tall dark brown bigfoot. He froze and the bigfoot simply turned and headed towards the south end of the property. Dakota did a 180 and high tailed it back to the house. His father was upset at his speed and said to his wife that he had hoped that boy was wearing a helmet at that speed! Dakota breathlessly told his parents what he had seen and when they returned to the site, there was nothing to be found. Later that evening, they had a bonfire going a ways from the house up the driveway when Judy and Dakota both saw the large dark brown creature run past the fire, over the driveway and into the woods.
The temperature Sunday was up to a balmy 23 degrees and our hike was a bit hampered by the snow, but we did manage to go a few miles into the 70 acre wilderness. David is a cancer survivor :) and he walks his property for an hour and a half every day, embracing life and enjoying the beauty of nature. He led us to one of many caves on the property. As we hiked nothing seemed out of the ordinary and then in one area, I pointed out the bent trees. There we a couple of thirty foot trees that were bent over and secured under a fallen log. David questioned how that could have happened in nature and it was quite apparent that this was not a natural occurrence. We saw another beautiful cave and then David guided us towards a stone quarry on his property. He showed me a few stone markers along the way and this was quite fascinating. The sandstone was broken and the one piece that resembled an arrowhead was placed almost as a directional indicator. He claims that ever since he discovered this, it has never been altered.

On our retreat back to the house we took another trail and discovered a twisted and snapped off tree. The diameter of the tree was approximately 4 inches and would have required a great vise-like grip to perform this feat.

They have many coyotes in the area and they have not heard any screams or howls in the night that could not be explained away.

I hope to return to this location in the spring/summer and spend a night or two camping out at the stone quarry. Serious researchers are welcome to join me with the permission of the land owners.

Bigfoot in Vermont?

I've been to Vermont 3 times in the past three years and I must say it is a very beautiful state. The forests and streams and scenery are gorgeous!
I know people have seen moose, dear and black bear in Vermont, but I don't hear a whole lot about bigfoot sightings.

The most recent bigfoot sighting on the BFRO website is from October 2005 and there aren't very many more there.

Is there a bigfoot organization that covers the Vermont area?

We are in the middle of a great snow storm today and I am heading down to Salt Fork to do some squatching. (It's too late to cancel my reservations!) I hope I am rewarded for my efforts!

Have a great weekend everybody and get back to me on the Vermont thing. :)

Big-By Lloyd Pye

Lloyd Pye has written a new ebook titled BIG, which is available on Smashwords.com.
'The story unfolds in the mountains of Washington State, where bigfoot sightings occur regularly.

It begins with a hunter encountering and then wounding a bigfoot with a shotgun blast to its upper back. Shot, bleeding, but not quite dead, the bigfoot passes out beside a stream deep in the woods. It is discovered by Marcy Dillon, a high school senior who intends to go to medical school. She has gone to the stream to gather herbs for an important school project.

As Marcy approaches the bigfoot, it revives and is rightfully terrified of her, but it is too weak to harm her. Given the reprieve, she manages to convince it that she wants to help it, not harm it any further.

Marcy is a small-town girl with big-town, world-class abilities, and she assumes responsibility for helping the bigfoot recover enough strength and stamina to return to wherever it came from.

What Marcy does not realize is that the hunter who shot the bigfoot returned to their isolated hometown, and the bigfoot tracked him down to exact revenge. Now everyone in the town knows a seriously wounded bigfoot is somewhere up in the forested mountains surrounding them.

If the bigfoot can be successfully recovered, dead or alive, it will be worth a fortune in earned income and publicity for their isolated area. A large posse of local men is gathered to begin the hunt in earnest. That posse includes Marcy’s father and boyfriend, both of whom she tries to dissuade from going, but both refuse.

It will be a life-and-death race for the bigfoot, but soon after their journey begins, it becomes life-and-death for Marcy, too. Now, however, she has no choice but to continue onward to meet whatever fate has in store for both of them.

This ebook sounds entertaining and action packed and is available for only $6.95.
I will be reading it today at the salon!

Here are some reviews of the book so far:

Not only does this book, give possible insight into the mind of a Bigfoot, it also provides such a riveting story line that will appeal to a broad spectrum of people. It certainly isn't your typical "bigfoot story" where you are aware throughout the story that it was strictly written for fantasy. This book however, will soften even the hardest skeptic to the idea that this could very well happen. Mr. Pye has a definite gift of story telling that will captivate and well as educate. Can't wait for the next books Mr. Pye has to offer in the future.

AUTHOR'S PREFACE
Big’s original incarnation was a screenplay I wrote in 1984, when I lived in Los Angeles and worked as a screenwriter. In 1985, it was optioned by a small independent production company, but their size didn’t stop them from arranging funding for it, and soon it was in full pre-production. They secured time commitments from a handful of B-list actors and a well-regarded British director, and our bigfoot’s costume and makeup and special effects were contracted to a master of that field in Hollywood.

Everything was solidly on track for our low-budget movie to be a rousing success. Unfortunately, in Hollywood the best-laid schemes gang aft agley. When executives at Universal Studios—then as now, one of the largest production companies in the world—heard about our pending production and recognized its earnings potential, they inquired about buying into it. Our young producers—who, when they optioned the screenplay from me, were then temporarily its owners—politely declined, explaining that they had the production details well in hand and did not need additional participation.

In hindsight, that was an offer they should not have refused. Soon afterward, our independent, low-budget production found itself in a game of Hollywood hardball, confronted with a new bigfoot movie coming from the production company of Steven Spielberg, arguably the best writer-director-producer in Hollywood at that time, and whose offices happened to be based at—surprise!—Universal Studios.

The new Universal movie was a silly comedy called Harry and the Hendersons, with a budget announced at $15 million. Our production was a dramatic, action-filled, coming-of-age story, and our budget was not in the ballpark of Spielberg’s. Also—and this was key—because theirs was a comedy and ours was a drama, we had no way to suggest, much less prove, that they got the idea to produce a bigfoot movie at the particular time they chose to do it as a direct result of our production. Legally, we were outflanked.

Although our producers were already picking shooting sites, they could not maintain their momentum against the Spielberg/Universal juggernaut. They soon found themselves without their promised funding, they could gain no traction with other potential investors, and ultimately the Big project was a near-miss, and today it is a never-was…as a movie.

Fortunately, I turned the script into a novel, so now you can experience its drama as the eBook you are about to read. The story is the same as it was then, and everyone who read it then felt it had the potential to become a terrific movie. So who knows? Maybe Steven Spielberg will decide it’s time to put things right regarding this matter.

I’m not holding my breath…but crazier things have happened in Hollywood.

Salt Fork Squatching

In honor of this week's episode of Finding Bigfoot that was taped at Salt Fork State Park, I am going to be posting stories from witnesses who had some type of Bigfoot activity.

I do believe there is a Squatch in these woods!

Our first story comes to us from Nancy and Bernie. Nancy and Bernie were high school sweethearts and are still married. They share a passion for Bigfoot and they spend almost every weekend camping at Salt Fork.

"February 9, 2009, my husband and I were driving around at Salt Fork State Park in Ohio. It was a warm day for February, maybe in the high 40 's or 50's, It was sunny and clear. About 4:00 or 4:30 pm.

It had been about 20 years since we had gone there. We were heading up the main road of the park wanting to see Hosack's Cave. The turnoff to the cave was not marked and we missed the road to turn on.

Just ahead on the right side of the road, there was a very large massive sasquatch standing on the hillside heading up. I had a very clear view. I kept asking my husband what is that, what is that. He didn't see it. There was no way on earth I would have ever told him what I saw. Just up the road a few feet by the pines was a turn around in a private driveway. I just kept asking what was that. My husband hurried and turned the car around in the drive and hurried back. It was only about 150 feet maybe back to the spot. As we approached I know he saw it then. He was stirring at the top of the hill and ran the car left of center and off the road onto the berm.

By this time the animal was at the top of the road about 60 feet up and it had it's back to us and had it's arms wrapped around the tree like is was hugging it, or trying to hide. We could see the solid dark brown hair not short not long It had longer hair that flowed form its head and hair off it's shoulders like a mane. It was buff like a muscular body builder. The view I had at first I could tell the arms were longer than a human. There was no visible neckline. The hair seemed groomed and not matted. It stood perfectly straight and did not hunch over in any way. We did not see the face. My husband sat there with his head down shaking his head in disbelief. At this point all I could do was laugh. I didn't want to be the first one the say what it was. I asked him what did you see. After a minute or two he said 'It looked like a giant hairy man'.

When we looked up it was gone again and we went home. We didn't talk about for a couple of days.

Then on February 13, we packed up our stuff and headed back to the lake to see if we could see it again. We hiked all through the woods and looked that day.

Thanks Nancy for sharing your story!

Bart Cutino Addresses Robert Lindsay's "Journalism"

Last night while taking a break driving southbound from some winter northern California research areas with my partner Rgr Leiterman, I happened to see both Lindsay's “interview” with Justin Smeja and the ridiculous accusations & exchange posted with Dr. Meldrum. Having been an invited participant during the body recovery effort in July 2011 & having become the closest confidant and liason (if you will) from the bigfoot community to those involved in the shooting incident, I thought I’d clarify some of the rampant speculation and sensationalized comments.

Regarding the body search effort orchestrated by my good friend Derek Randles-

-Bobo and myself had been invited by Derek to attend the recovery effort a week prior as Bo and I were returning from the NorCal woods together and I can tell you from my participation in the search & my observations over the course of those three days that every word-phrase Meldrum took the time to highlight in red as erroneous from Lindsay’s “source” is 100% correctly “erroneous.”

-First off, Matt Moneymaker, who everyone knows is one of my closest friends in and out of the field for many years, was absolutely not at the recovery effort and was only told there was an outing by me (with very little information) a few days after my return home.

-As addressed, the dog handler visited the site on the third morning and was a very pleasant and professional woman. The dog handler was not looking for credit in discovery as she even declined to to be filmed or photographed with respect to the subject matter. The dog is trained strictly to detect human decomposition (a substantial & lengthy training process) and cannot be manipulated into successfully matching scents from a foreign, unfamiliar tissue sample as it could potentially ruin the dog's career.

-I haven't had a chance to talk with Jeff since last July at the site but I will tell you that the suggestion that any respected Associate Professor of Anatomy would make such a bold & presumptuous statement (regardless of his association of subject) without having an opportunity to perform appropriate scientific diligence is ridiculous. He made no such claim and I retrieved the sample for both Meldrum and Mioczynski to initially examine, in which they did using limited magnification that was available. Meldrum admittedly did have some preliminary reservations regarding hair morphology characteristics seen that he shared with all of us and I discussed personally with him at the site over the three days. I’m unaware if he was provided a sliver sample and or he’s personally done any further examinations.

Regarding Lindsay’s interview with Justin, you know immediately when you see a written interview of someone you know fairly well and it's obviously sensationalized, biased and paraphrased. That's usually when you can't see the written responses coming from the interviewee's mouth any longer and it only took about two questions of Lindsay's "interview" with Justin to see that from my perspective. Without even having an opportunity to talk to Justin until this morning, I can tell you there are countless mistruths, false facts and exaggerations to mention, but the DFG story is worthy of some clarification.

Regarding the DFG's visit to Justin's house a couple of weeks prior to Christmas, Justin had contacted me extremely unnerved a few days before I was planning to head up to pick him up to place Reconyx cams in the northern Sierra foothills (nowhere near "kills" site). The unannounced visit by two officer's from the DFG was understandably "spooky" considering it was mid-day, they were persistent and very nonchalant in regards to how they verbally approached the subject matter.

Although impersonating an officer was an unlikely scenario as it's a serious offense in CA, and conspiracy theorists could scream “feds” all day, the real world scenario in my opinion was that it was in fact DFG and they were finally following up on several calls (likely made by internet bigfooters) about the incident and also were concerned more about a potential bear poaching relationship with this incident then animals they've likely determined do not exist.

The first thing we wanted to do was confirm it was in fact DFG and then we collectively decided it would be appropriate and in Justin's & everyone else’s best interests to grant a formal & truthful interview "in office" potentially with an attorney present & officially get the events of that day on record. To Justin's credit, he was absolutely ready & willing to go on record and although there's not much to fear since there’s no precedent where someone was retroactively charged with killing a species that isn't currently "recognized" by science, nor federal or state hunting laws, it’s not always easy by nature for lifelong fisherman & hunters to comply & cooperate with F&G when you’ve perceived them as authoritative eyes on your preferred recreational activities your whole life.

On our way up the I80 towards Reno I coached Justin on what to say when we contacted the DFG by cell phone and my advice consisted of him being 100% truthful, cooperative & professional in manner and language and not get caught in lengthy discussion of incident particulars over the phone (in person only). He left a message with the warden from my vehicle and was not contacted back for almost 36 hrs. By that time I had dropped Justin back off and I was already back home in Monterey (we only went into the field for one quick night). Justin was essentially told that his case wasn’t a priority and that they would contact him should they need to revisit it.

Over time, I've gotten to know both Justin and the driver personally & casually, as well as their immediate families. Although I wasn’t with them on that day, I'm fairly confident that they are being truthful to the best of their recollection of the incident and feel that anybody in my shoes would come to the same conclusion if they’ve spent the time I have around them.

However, as I’ve stated previously, it doesn’t matter what I or anyone else thinks, at the end of the day, we’re measured by results (in this case evidence). The boys understand that should the promised DNA results not be what they’re purported to be, then their incident is nothing more then an intriguing but anecdotal account. From the beginning, both have claimed that the sample they found was circumstantial in nature and with some significant time lapsed and I can tell you that both just want the sample verified one way or another and don’t fear the results. They’ve understandably believed by color appearance (with adult) location & circumstance there’s a good chance it’s from the specimen initially shot, but admittedly have never been 100% certain. (sorry- I assure you, no hidden bodies being kept or suppressed by my good friend Wally Hersom).

For what it’s worth, personally, I've never been as confident in the sample due to the circumstantial nature and timing in which it was recovered coupled with the concerns Meldrum initially shared from his admittedly “limited observation” of present hair morphology characteristics. I'd be lying if I said that I was optimistic about what results will show in the heavily anticipated "study." I don't mean that as a personal knock on Melba, nor let me make clear am I privy to or have any secret insight into potential results to be pessimistic about. I just personally live by "I'll believe it when I see it" & "it's nothing, until it's something" philosophies, particularly in this field and all I've seen thus far are speculative leaks, bold claims & conjecture. I would love nothing more to be pleasantly surprised for all parties involved (whom I have the utmost respect for & know just want the truth) as well as the field as a whole.

I've also received some emails from people wondering how if I believe the "Sierra Kills" story is true I could be involved in protecting those directly responsible for the shooting & endorse the killing of two sasquatches. I have a similar response as my friend Derek Randles (I consider one of the best natural woodsman and researchers in the game) that as a researcher & personal witness, the thought of two of these graceful animals being slaughtered sickens me to no end and I would never endorse the harming of these animals under any circumstance.... though wasting this opportunity and the enormity of what it could mean from a historical zoological discovery perspective (I cannot go back in time to change if I wanted to).... would make me even sicker.

In getting to know Justin personally I’ve also come to understand that it’s easy for us that are emotionally invested in this subject matter to sit here, judge and arrogantly proclaim what we’d do or not do in the same situation. A matter of fact, I’ve never told him this but one of the only reasons I refrained from possibly taking a shot at him (other then an unneeded assault charge) when I first saw him was that I didn’t believe him..... “yet.”

I’ve come to realize that maybe I would’ve done something stupid or regretful had I been confronted with a completely unexpected & immediate, frightening physical reality they both found themselves in. In addition, from an accepted biological perspective, what “they” are exactly remains to be seen and we could all argue about it all we want as it means nothing in the interim.

At the end of the day, I believe Justin should be judged by his actions that day not on how you and I as researcher/ enthusiasts (emotionally invested and interested parties & even some of us, witnesess) see & perceive sasquatches, but in how they appeared from “his” perspective initially, appearing suddenly, fully hirsute, somewhat frightening in appearance and potentially unpredictable.... “animals.”

Now What?

I am starting to think that maybe we should pay more attention to Robert Lindsay. I just don't know anymore. My gut instinct, which is usually never wrong, tells me that the DNA evidence was all just another event that would leave us still wondering if Sasquatch are flesh and blood creatures AND more so, if they truly exist.

I had been leery from the beginning due to Biscardi's involvement, Ketchum's track record for not producing favorable outcomes for her customers, and The Smeja story, the Erickson Project...it all just seemed so convenient how they all went hand-in-hand.

I feel like maybe I am out of touch? Then I see this story today from Robert Lindsay and I am thinking to myself, are people really seeing a Bigfoot in this blurry trail cam photo?

Have I become so cynical and jaded that I can't see the Squatch through the trees?

I would love to hear feedback from you all on this because I think maybe I am failing to grasp the inevitable truth that maybe Ketchum is legit. Maybe Smeja did kill a Bigfoot. Maybe the government doesn't really care if we prove Bigfoot exists.

Talk to me.

Maybe this photo IS of a Sasquatch picking up apples in Vermont?

Ohio Conference Rumors

Well no one has officially confirmed this but I have heard through several sources that Don Keating has turned over the annual Ohio Bigfoot Conference to Marc DeWerth. The proposed date of the conference is May 18th - 20th.

Marc is trying to get Dr. John Bindernagel to be a guest speaker. Dr. Bindernagel is a professional biologist who studies the biological aspects of Bigfoot life.

I'm not sure why Don waited so long to make the announcement or why he didn't hand the conference over to someone with more experience but it is what it is.

Not to fret though because you still have the option of attending the First Annual Chautauqua Bigfoot Conference being held May 4-6 2012.

Guests who will be staying at the We Wan Chu Cottages for the weekend will be treated to their own Bigfoot Show as well as up to 50 people will be chosen from We Wan Chu Cottages' guests this weekend to do a Bigfoot Expedition Saturday Night somewhere in the WNY or PA area. If interested, please mention when making your Cottage Reservation.
1st Annual
Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo:

When: May 6th, 2012: - 12:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

Where: The Chautauqua Suites, Mayville NY. Special "Bigfoot Weekend Rate" = $ 75 + tax per room per night includes Free Breakfast.

Justice for Riley Rawlins

Please share this with anyone and everyone who may be connected to some form of media outlet. This could be made into a documentary as well.
We need the United States Government to take a closer look into the mishandling of crimes in America and especially Texas.

JUSTICE FOR RILEY RAWLINS

On January 7th, 2012 Riley was walking to the Sonic off of Audelia & Royal in Dallas, Texas. He was crossing the street "and had the right of way" when he was struck and killed by a 19 year old woman going twice the posted speed limit running a red light. The limit in this area is 35 and she admitted to going 70+ This young woman that hit and killed Riley was not only speeding but has no drivers licence and no car insurance, in fact the vehicle she was driving is not even hers. The Dallas Police Dept. took her statement and then she was free to leave.

Riley did not have that choice, he was not able to walk away from the scene of the accident. He was taken to Baylor Medical Center Dallas where later that evening he passed away. As of today "Jan 17th" this woman has still not been picked up or arrested.

Fox 4 News has covered some of this story, but reporters have told Rileys mom "Monica Rawlins" that we need to get this into the media, we need to be on the phone and emailing the DA, we need to be on the phone with and emailing the chief of police because the lady that hit Riley has a good chance of a plea bargan for "Probation". This is NOT justice!!!
